What to expect when you first schedule

After scheduling an initial session for yourself or your child, and before that first session, you are invited to an OPTIONAL brief 10-minute intake phone call with Emily. This is a relaxed, no-pressure conversation — a chance for Emily to learn a little about what brings you to CranioSacral therapy, your relevant health history, and answer any questions you have.
If you'd prefer to skip the intake call, that's completely fine! The intake conversation can simply be folded into your first session instead. The phone call is offered as a convenience — it means more of your session time can be devoted to hands-on therapy.

Initial session Intake Form

Once you schedule your initial session, or if it has been at least 2 years since your last session with Emily, it is requested that you fill out an Intake form. A link will be sent to you in your confirmation and reminder emails. This link is simply a webpage within this site that has intake documents as PDFs shown, listed according to age group: adults, teens, children, infants/toddlers.

Print the form from the webpage, fill out, and bring the completed form with you to the first session. Please do not email completed forms, email is not a secure form of communication.

If you'd prefer to complete the intake forms in person, a blank set will be provided for you upon arrival. Like the intake phone call, filling out forms ahead of time is simply a way to make the most of your therapy time during your first session.

What to expect during your first session

Plan to arrive at or up to 5 minutes before your scheduled start time.

All therapy is done fully clothed, lying face up (supine) on a comfortable massage table with 3" memory foam padding and optional table warmer.

If lying face up isn't comfortable or possible for you, just let Emily know — sessions can easily be adapted for side-lying or seated in a chair, and advance notice makes accommodation even smoother.

During the session, Emily typically works in silence, and verbally follows the lead of the client. Craniosacral therapy often induces a deep state of relaxation, and the sound of a voice may disrupt that depth. An exception is during intra-oral techniques — techniques that address the bones of the face, sinuses, and hard palate — where verbal communication helps ensure your comfort.

While many sessions are completed in peaceful silence, you are always welcome to communicate during your session. Especially if you have questions, would like to report a change in symptoms, feel too warm or chilled, need water, or experience any discomfort, please let Emily know.

Completing the session

At the completion of your CranioSacral therapy session, Emily will check in with you regarding your comfort, changes in pain level, and updates to symptoms.

You'll have an opportunity to discuss future treatment options and recommendations, reschedule as needed, and submit payment.

Payment options include credit card, check, Zelle, Venmo, and cash.

Follow up sessions may be scheduled in person at the completion of your session, or scheduled online.

After the first session, there is no need to fill out another intake form unless it's been over 2 years since your last session.

At the start of follow-up sessions, Emily will ask for a brief update, typically requiring 1-5 minutes before starting therapy.
